Sea Scout Ship 7916

S.S.S. Blue Heron

Occoquan, Virginia

The first boat Ship 7916 acquired, the Amanda Grace (pictured above), was donated by former Sea Scout Dr. Wayne Broadwater. After remaining "on the hard" for five years before we got her, she first floated again on June 25th, 2008. She remains at Herrington Harbour North until she is brought down to the Tim's Rivershore, where  she will be moored far enough out to accommodate her fixed keel.

Specifications:

Rig: Sloop

Year: 1982

Displacement: 6,250 lbs.

Engine: Single inboard 7 horsepower diesel

Gregg and Jean Reynolds donated the Seeking Peace (above), a cutter-rigged MacGregor 23, which is moored at Leesylvania State Park. Her swing keel makes it possible to sail her in the shallow waters of the Potomac River without becoming stuck on the sandy bottom.

Thanks to the generosity of the folks at the Woodbridge location of the Carefree Boat Club--located just around the corner from Leesylvania at Neabsco Creek--Ship 7916 also has an agreement for use of the Takin' it Breezy (above), a Catalina 22 that is also equipped with a swing keel.
